Lower School News W/E 16.12.16

Well here we are at the end of the Autumn Term. It has been a long but productive time for the children. They have enjoyed immensely their topics of Ancient Egyptians and The Stone Age. We have seen fantastic Egyptian scarab beetles as well as designs for Stone Age felt purses. The children have covered both wonderful dances and poised gymnastics in PE and have turned their hand to some brilliant French as the Year 4s have served at the French Café and the Year 3s have sung for their audience. The Year 3s have been looking at the sounds and melodies of Hall of the Mountain Kings and the Year 4s have been working really hard at their Samba for the Listen to me Concerts.

The climax of the term has been the wonderful Panto Crime pantomime and the Listen to Me Concerts. The children performed so well in both they were a credit to the school.

As we reach the end of this term, we say goodbye to Mr Costello who is leaving us. He has been with Liss Junior for 4 years and has enjoyed every one of them. He extends his very best wishes and thanks to all the parents and children that have worked with him these past 4 years. Thank you.

This week the year 3s have been finishing their Dragon poems and looking forward to starting a fresh genre in the new term.

The year 4s have been finishing their work on the stories of Roald Dahl. Next term they will be studying Diaries and recounts.

In maths this week the year 3 classes have been looking at puzzles and problems relating to Christmas. Next term they will again be looking at numbers and number problems and will be sharpening their strategies for solving both. The years 4s have been producing some great weather reports. Next term they too will be looking at numbers and number problems and will be looking to use appropriate strategies to check and find solutions for both.

They will all have Maths, English and Topic homework set throughout the term. Maths will be set on a Monday and will be either worksheets, Ed City work or Times Tables Rock Star work. English or Topic homework will be sent home on Wednesday. They will have a week to complete it.

The Year 3 s and 4s also have spellings and tables each week and will be tested on them at the end of the week.

Times tables Rock Stars: As a new adventure, they have been given a password and instructions to log on and create a rock star which they can develop by earning money from table’s challenges at https://ttrockstars.com/login. This is a great activity to help them remember their times tables and we know they will enjoy it!

Times tables challenges can also be found on Ed City. If you are having trouble logging into Ed City site then we have found that Google Chrome if the best search engine to use to access the site.
