The third week of the half term has come to an end, and what an exciting week it has been! The Year 3s have been busy looking at Stone Age artefacts which tell them something about life in the Stone Age. They have explored life in Skara Brae and looked at what life must have been like for its inhabitants. They have looked at the stone structure of their buildings, unusual for Stone Age, and have looked at some of the artefacts gathered there. They have also been looking at and handling a stone hand axe which is believed to be at least 100,000 years old and maybe even as old as 500,000 years. It was made not by our ancestors but by Neanderthals a close relative of ours.
The year 4s have continued to look at life in Ancient Egypt. They have been looking at the hieroglyph language of the Ancient Egyptians and have been creating Cartouches with their names in hieroglyphs on them.
But the main excitement this week has been The French Café. All the weeks of work learning to ask and answer questions in French finally came to fruition, when the Years 3 and 4 ran and performed in their own French café. The year 3s were fantastic as the entertainers for the afternoon. The year 4s, dressed in their waiter uniform, took orders in French and served at tables faultlessly despite the difficulties of a power cut. It was a lovely afternoon. And despite having no sound system to sing to, Mr Redshaw stepped in to save the day, and played on his guitar. A big thank you to him and all the parents and volunteers who were there to support the children.
This week the year 3s have been looking at life in Skara Brae, the Stone Age village. This coming week they will begin to look at the language of report writing so that they can write about the village.
The year 4s have been exploring humorous poems. They have looked at poems by a number of poets. They have looked at the language and form of the poems. Next week they will begin writing their own poems.
In maths this week the year 3 classes have been looking at fractions of shapes. Next week they will look at fractions of numbers. The year 4s have been investigating fractions of shapes and numbers. Next week they will be looking at problems involving fractions.
They will all have Maths, English and Topic homework set throughout the term. Maths will be set on a Monday and will be either worksheets, Ed City work or Times Tables Rock Star. English or Topic homework will be sent home on Wednesday and they will have a week to complete it.
The Year 3 s and 4s also have spellings and tables this coming week and will be tested on them at the end of the week.
Times tables Rock Stars: As a new adventure, they have been given a password and instructions to log on and create a rock star which they can develop by earning money from table’s challenges at https://ttrockstars.com/login. This is a great activity to help them remember their times tables and we know they will enjoy it!
Times tables challenges can also be found on Ed City. If you are having trouble logging into Ed City site then we have found that Google Chrome if the best search engine to use to access the site.
